Perf is a pool-safe perforated aluminium fencing system designed to meet AS1926.1 pool barrier safety requirements. The panels are precision-punched aluminium that provide a semi-transparent appearance — you can see through the fence from a distance while it provides a fully compliant pool barrier. It comes in two patterns (Full Perf and Palm) and two powder coat colours (Satin Black and Monument Satin), with panels available in standard and tall (Trans) heights.

Black is a satin matte black powder coat — the most popular choice, with the strongest contrast and most dramatic look against any backdrop. Monument is a deep charcoal-grey powder coat that matches the popular Colorbond Monument colour used widely in Australian homes for roofing, guttering and cladding. If your home features Monument or dark grey tones, the Monument fencing will blend in seamlessly. Both colours are available across panels, gates, frame kits, posts and accessories.

The Full Perf panel (PP-PANEL-B/MN) has uniform 9mm perforations across the entire 1988×1188mm panel surface, giving maximum view-through and the cleanest, most minimal look. The Palm panel (PP-PANEL-PALM-B/MN) has the same Full Perf perforations across most of the panel but features a decorative palm frond motif formed by 5mm perforations — a beautiful tropical design that suits Queensland and coastal homes perfectly. Both panels are the same size and price, and both comply with AS1926.1.

The Trans panel (PP-PANEL-TRANS-B/MN) is 1288mm wide and 1888mm high — nearly 1.9 metres tall. It is used where the standard 1188mm panel height is insufficient, such as on elevated decks or sloped sites where extra height is needed for compliance, or as a feature fence element. The Trans panel requires a Trans Frame Kit (PP-TRANSKIT-B/MN) rather than the standard 38×25mm Frame Kit.

Frameless glass fencing gives a completely clear, invisible barrier — a resort-style look that maximises the view. Perf gives a semi-transparent, textured look that is distinctly modern and increasingly popular. The practical advantages of perforated fencing over glass include: significantly lower cost, no glass cleaning (fingerprints, smears, hard water marks), much easier DIY installation, greater privacy from neighbours, and no risk of glass shattering. Both comply with AS1926.1 when correctly installed. The choice comes down to aesthetic preference and budget.

Yes. Perf panels and gates are designed to comply with AS1926.1 — the Australian Standard for Swimming Pool Safety Barriers. The system includes self-closing D&D Tru Close hinges and a choice of two AS1926.1 compliant latches — the top-pull Magna Latch or the side-pull face mount latch. Always confirm compliance requirements with your local council or a registered pool safety inspector, as requirements may vary by state and council.

In most Australian states and territories, a registered pool safety inspector must inspect and certify the pool barrier before the pool can be used. In Queensland for example, all pool barriers must be registered with the local council and inspected regularly. Check with your local council for specific requirements in your area. We recommend engaging a licensed builder or fencing contractor if any part of the installation is unclear.

Under AS1926.1, a pool gate must be: self-closing (closes automatically from any open position — provided by the Tru Close hinges), self-latching (latches automatically when it closes — provided by either the Magna Latch or face mount latch), child-resistant (latch mechanism must be inaccessible to young children — the Magna Latch top-pull design achieves this naturally), and opening outward away from the pool. The gate must swing away from the pool, not into it.

Yes — Perf is designed as a DIY-friendly system. Panels come fully assembled in their frames, and the two installation methods are clearly documented in our installation guide. However, pool fencing must comply with AS1926.1 and local council requirements, and in most states the completed fence must be inspected by a registered pool safety inspector. We recommend a licensed builder or fencing contractor if any part of the installation is outside your skill set.

Each assembled panel is approximately 2000mm wide (1988mm panel + frame). To calculate: measure your total fence run in metres and divide by 2.0 to get the number of panels. For example, a 10-metre run needs 5 panels. Add 1 gate per access point. Allow 5–10% extra for angled cuts or complex layouts. Each panel also needs one Frame Kit. Method 1 (Bracket Mount) — proprietary brackets fix to the screw flutes of the 50×50mm aluminium posts. The framed panel drops into the brackets from above. This is the most common method, clean and secure. Method 2 (U-Channel) — 45×25mm U-channels (PP-U-B/MN, sold as a 2-pack) are fixed to the posts and the framed panel slides in from above. U-channels allow height adjustment after installation and are ideal where fine height tuning is needed. Both methods use the same panels and frame kits. Yes — every infill panel requires one Frame Kit. The standard 38×25mm Frame Kit (PP-FRAMEKIT-B/MN, $127.00) suits Full Perf and Palm panels. The Trans Frame Kit (PP-TRANSKIT-B/MN, $163.67) suits Trans panels. The frame kit contains all extrusions, corner connectors and fixings needed to assemble the border around one panel. Panels are supplied without frames so you can assemble them in your chosen colour on-site.

Yes — the Base Plate Set (XP-BP-SET-B/MN, $15.10 each) allows you to surface mount 50×50mm posts onto existing concrete without core drilling. The 100×100mm plate fixes with dynabolts or chemical anchors (not included). Confirm with your local council or pool safety inspector that surface mounting meets compliance for your installation before proceeding.

Option 1 — Magna Latch Top Pull (ML-TL, $88.20): The most popular choice. The release mechanism is at the top of the gate — out of reach of young children — and no packer is required. Self-latching and key lockable. Option 2 — Master Face Mount Lock Latch (MR-FMLSL, $56.05): A side-pull lockable latch mounted to the face of the gate frame. Requires the PP-PACKER-SP packer ($4.28) and a SS-GS gate stop ($10.80). Both are AS1926.1 compliant. For most installations, Option 1 (Magna Latch) is simpler and preferred.

The Tru Close Hinge Set (TC-H-AT-B, $39.30 per pair) is a reliable, workhorse spring-closing hinge — widely used across Australia and excellent value. Adjustable tension lets you dial in the right closing force. The Polaris 156 Series (PSC-FM156, $302.70 per pair) is the premium option with built-in soft-close dampening that gives a smooth, controlled, slam-free close. For most residential installations, the Tru Close is excellent. The Polaris is ideal for high-end builds or commercial sites where gate action quality matters.

You need 2 hinges per gate. Both the Tru Close (TC-H-AT-B) and Polaris (PSC-FM156) are sold as a pair of 2 — so one pack is all you need for one gate. If you have two gates, order two packs.

Perf fencing is very low maintenance compared to glass. Rinse periodically with fresh water — especially in coastal or pool-side environments — to remove salt or chlorine deposits. For general cleaning, a mild detergent with a soft cloth or brush is sufficient. Avoid abrasive cleaners, steel wool or harsh chemical solvents which can damage the powder coat finish. Do not direct a high-pressure washer into the perforations at close range.

Yes. Perf panels, gates and frames are powder coated aluminium — aluminium does not rust and the powder coat provides excellent resistance to chlorine, UV and coastal salt air. The SS304 stainless steel screws are corrosion resistant. The Tru Close hinges are glass-reinforced nylon — specifically designed for pool and coastal environments. For extreme coastal exposure (within 100m of the ocean), rinse with fresh water monthly.
