Installation
Method 1 — Bracket Fit
In the bracket fit method, horizontal brackets are fixed to the posts and the framed panel slides into position. This method suits a post daylight opening of 2150mm for a standard 2000mm wide framed panel.
Key dimensions — Method 1 (Bracket Fit):
Standard framed panel: 2000mm W × 1200mm H |
Horizontal rails supplied at: 2147mm (provides 75mm gap each side) |
Vertical stiles: 1149mm |
Daylight between posts: 2150mm |
Minimum gap for brackets: 35mm each side
Method 1 — dimensional layout and Step 1: frame assembly
1
Assemble the outer frame
Lay out rails in a picture frame configuration — side rails sit inside the top and bottom rails. Drill 3mm drainage holes in the bottom rail at both ends and the midpoint.
2
Place panel into frame
Place the infill panel into the frame rebate, ensuring it is tight against the rail rib on all 4 sides. Check and measure that the top and bottom rail overhang is equal on both sides. Check square.
Steps 2–3: placing panel in frame and drilling pilot holes for wafer screws
3
Fix panel to top and bottom rails
Drill 3mm pilot holes into the top and bottom outer frame rebate, aligning with the pre-punched holes in the panel border. Start with the 4 outer corner holes — affix with self-tapping wafer head screws and check for squareness before completing the remaining holes.
Tip: Always start at the 4 outer corners first and confirm squareness before drilling and screwing all remaining holes.
4
Fit clip bead to top and bottom rails
Temporarily remove the side rails from the panel. Affix the clip bead to the top and bottom rails, then return the side rails into position. Ensure the panel is tight against the rail ribs on both sides.
Steps 4–5: clip bead installation and fixing panel to side rails
5
Fix panel to side rails
Drill 3mm pilot holes and affix panel to side rails using self-tapping wafer head screws through the pre-punched fixing holes. Check the panel is square before and after tightening. Adjust as necessary.
6
Affix clip bead to side rails
Snap the clip bead covers onto the side rails to conceal the screw fixings for a clean finished appearance.
Steps 6–8: clip bead on side rails, fixing brackets to post, and pivoting panel into position
7
Fix brackets to one post
Affix brackets to one post only (top and bottom) at the correct height — matching the distance of the top and bottom rails of the completed panel. Consider the required gap between the bottom rail and finished ground level. Slide the loose brackets onto the opposite top and bottom rail of the completed panel.
8
Install panel between posts
Insert the rails into the fixed brackets and pivot the panel into position. Secure the loose brackets onto the opposite post and panel with suitable fixings.
Installation
Method 2 — U-Channel Fit
In the U-channel method, vertical U-channels are fixed to the posts first, and the completed framed panel is lowered into them. This method uses a shorter daylight opening of 2012mm for a standard 2000mm wide panel.
Key dimensions — Method 2 (U-Channel Fit):
Standard framed panel: 2000mm W × 1200mm H |
Horizontal rails: cut to 2000mm (trim from 2147mm supplied) |
Vertical stiles: 1149mm |
Daylight between posts: 2012mm
Method 2 — dimensional layout and Step 1: frame assembly with trimmed rails
1
Assemble the outer frame
Lay out rails in a picture frame configuration — side rails inside top and bottom rails. For U-Channel installation, cut horizontal rails to 2000mm (trim from the 2147mm supplied length). Drill 3mm drainage holes in the bottom rail at both ends and the midpoint.
2
Place panel into frame
Place the infill panel into the frame rebate, ensuring it is tight against the rail rib on all 4 sides. Check square.
Steps 2–3: panel placement and screw fixing through pre-punched holes
3
Fix panel to top and bottom rails
Drill 3mm pilot holes into the top and bottom outer frame rebate, aligning with the pre-punched holes in the panel border. Start with the 4 outer corner holes and affix with self-tapping wafer head screws. Check squareness before completing all remaining holes.
4
Fit clip bead to top and bottom rails
Remove side rails temporarily. Affix clip bead to top and bottom rails. Return side rails and ensure panel is tight against rail ribs on both sides.
Steps 4–5: clip bead and side rail fixing
5
Fix panel to side rails
Drill 3mm pilot holes and affix panel to side rails using self-tapping wafer head screws through the pre-punched fixing holes. Check square before and after tightening.
6
Affix clip bead to side rails
Snap clip bead covers onto the side rails to conceal screw fixings.
Steps 6–8: clip bead, U-channel fixing to posts, and lowering panel into channels
7
Fix U-Channels to posts
Screw-fix the U-channels to the aluminium posts using self-tapping wafer head screws. Fix at 3 points per channel — bottom, middle and top. Consider the gap between the bottom rail and finished ground level when positioning.
Note: Allow for suitable fixings if installing to varied post materials (timber, masonry, etc.).
8
Install panel into U-Channels
Lower the completed framed panel into the U-channels. Fix off using wafer head screws in each corner of the completed panel.
Standard panels can be cut down to any smaller size using a Nibbler tool. Use the formulas below to calculate the correct rail lengths for your specific post spacing.
Rail Length Formulas
Method 1 width note: Minimum gap between vertical side stile and post is 35mm to provide necessary clearance for bracket installation.
Method 2 width note: Panel length + 12mm clearance between posts is required for fixings and channel.
Appendix 1 — cutting panels to size and re-drilling fixing holes after cut-down
1
Cut the panel to size
Lay the panel on a flat, padded surface overhanging the off-cut area. Using a clamped straight-edge as a guide, cut using a Nibbler tool. Once cut, file any sharp or protruding edges. For best visual appearance, remove both borders if sizing permits.
2
Assemble frame to cut panel
Assemble outer frame to adjusted panel as per Steps 1–6 of the relevant installation method.
3
Re-drill fixing holes — horizontal rails
The pre-punched fixing holes in the cut border may have been removed. Drill 3mm pilot holes approximately 50mm in from each corner and affix using self-tapping wafer head screws.
Cut deduction for frame: Overall finished outer-frame size minus 12mm.
4
Re-drill fixing holes — vertical rails
Drill 3mm pilot holes in the rebate of the outer frame, positioning holes offset to the centre of existing design holes — this ensures maximum screw head purchase on the panel. Space holes approximately 50mm from each corner and 400mm apart. Do not drill through both walls of the extrusion.
Perf gates are supplied fully assembled and are compatible with two hardware configurations. Both options use Tru-Close self-closing hinges — the difference is in the latch type.
Option 1
Top Pull Magna Latch
Option 1 — Tru-Close hinges (hinge side) + Top Pull Magna Latch (latch side). Gate opens outwards away from pool.
Hinge Side
D&D Tru-Close hinges
21mm gap between hinge and post
Hinges on pool exterior side
Latch Side
Top Pull Magna Latch
13–38mm gap to post
Latch 38mm down from top on pool side
Option 2
Face Mount Lockable Latch
Option 2 — Tru-Close hinges + Face Mount Lockable Latch with 3mm packer kit and gate stop
Hinge Side
D&D Tru-Close hinges
21mm gap between hinge and post
Latch Side
Face Mount Lockable Latch
8–10mm gap to post
Requires 3mm packer kit + gate stop
Option 2 installation note: Drill two 4mm holes to attach the face mount latch, ensuring all internal aluminium walls are drilled without piercing the opposite final wall of the gate frame. Using a low torque setting on a cordless drill, affix the two stainless steel 35mm screws supplied in the packer kit to attach the face mount latch, 10mm latch packer and 3mm packer to the gate frame.
For both options: The gate must open outwards — away from the pool. Hinges are fixed on the pool exterior side. The latch must be mounted on the pool side, at least 150mm down from the top of the gate (where applicable) to meet AS1926.1 requirements.
